How it works

Three steps, zero setup

No setup screen, no import wizard — Group Maker lives on the same board as everything else and it's running before the class has sat down.

1

Open the dock and tap Group Maker

Add your names once — they stay with the widget for next time.

2

Choose how many groups

Two teams or eight tables — pick a number and shuffle. Keep-apart pairs quietly stop certain combos from happening.

Show the class

Groups appear in a clean table or as avatar cards, with group names and colours you can customise.

Classroom ideas

Try it tomorrow

Three ways teachers actually run group maker — steal one for tomorrow morning.

Turn-and-talk, actually random

Fresh pairs for every discussion, so 'talk to your partner' stops meaning 'talk to your best friend'.

Jigsaw expert groups

Deal the class into four topic groups to research, then reshuffle so every new group has one expert per topic. Two taps, no clipboard.

Table reset day

First Monday of the month: shuffle the seating groups and let the group names christen the tables. New month, new neighbours.

The wheel ended the 'you always pick the same people' complaints on day one. Remove-after-pick might be the fairest thing in my room.

FAQ

Good to know

Can I stop two students being grouped together?

Yes. Keep-apart pairs are respected on every shuffle, and nobody in the room knows the rule exists.

Can I name the groups?

Yes — name them and colour them. 'Team Photosynthesis' beats 'Group 3' every time.

Does it do pairs?

Pick enough groups and you've got pairs. It divides whoever's on the list as evenly as the maths allows.

What if someone's absent?

Exclude them from today's shuffle without removing them from the list — they're back in the pool tomorrow.

Do I need an account to try it?

No — no login, no install. Your class list saves with the board on this device; an account only matters for other devices.
